Everyone has seen cartoons and knows what animation is. Traditionally animation is creating the illusion of life with different consecutive drawings. 3-D is the acronym for Three Dimensional. 3D animations happen in three dimensions in comparison to traditional animation. A 3d animator is animating his 3d models in a virtual three dimensional world. The 3d artist works with virtual 3 dimensional sculptures or puppets called 3d models. When talking about character 3d animation the work of a 3d artist is not very different from the work of a puppeteer. The only dissimilarity is that the 3d artist has more control other his virtual 3d puppets, and his work is instantly recorded. He can also come back any time and correct his animation if he sees that it does not interpret the right feeling or mood.

3D models are created by manipulating polygon meshes and shaping them into objects, characters and scenes. Even if you don't have formal art training that goes beyond the few classes you took in high school or college you can still do great work in 3D. These days 3D images and cartoons are used every field. There are a lot of 3D movies coming up in Bollywood as well as Hollywood. It is used by various private companies to make advertisements. The demand for 3D animators is increasing day by day. Many of the cartoons made by using 3D effects have become famous like The Incredible, Toy Story.

Good 3D animators are the most highly sought-after artist in the world of 3D. And the reason for this is that good animation is hard. It may seem a very easy and fun profession but in reality 3d animation is a very complex skill that requires years of practice, fundamental knowledge, patience and talent. Besides 3d animators there are other professionals involved in creating the final 3d animation. Most people who become 3D artists hardly ever venture further than modeling, and their ventures into animation are clumsy at best, and cringe-worthy or unwatchable at worst. This is because animation requires a totally diverse skill set than 3D modeling. In fact, these two aspects of 3D art are so different that 3D modelers are rarely animators, and animators can rarely model. Established studios usually hire dedicated animators to do the bulk of the animation. Being a 3D artist requires different ways of thinking and a lot of creativity.
